What to know about luxury vinyl flooring
If you haven’t seen vinyl flooring in a while, you’re in for a pleasant shock. The luxury vinyl version, considered a premium product, is so stylish that sometimes even flooring experts have difficulty telling it from the genuine wood, stone, and tile that it echoes. It’s also durable, 100% waterproof, low maintenance, and affordable, with a fast and uncomplicated installation technique.
Savings without sacrificing style
The images are taken with 3D photography, so they are clear and true-to-life. Wormholes, knots, grains, swirls, and veining variations are in full view, as are vibrant colors and patterns. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured appearances, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. Finishes are available in matte, gloss, and high gloss colors.
An added design option is that the material can be cut into long planks or square, groutable, tile-sized pieces. Luxury vinyl plank is made by cutting the vinyl into strips and mounting them on boards to mimic hardwood. While vinyl plank flooring is most often associated with hardwood-looks, it is sometimes used for stone. LVT flooring is used for stone or tile looks, with some going even further by using grout.

Durability and waterproof capabilities: two much sought-after characteristics
The vinyl itself is very tough, and this is a layered product. The top is a clear, melamine, tough coating that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and wear and keeps spills at the top just waiting to be wiped off. However, thicker is better, so we advise you to go with a sturdy vinyl of at least 8-mm. Wear layers should be around 20-mils.
As for low maintenance sweep daily, be sure to get into corners and under cabinets so dirt won’t hide. For deeper cleaning, mop weekly with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners; they can damage the finish and dull the floor. Consult your flooring expert if you feel you need more shine.

Installation can be a fast and uncomplicated floating floor. Here, the pieces click together to mat and then hover over the subfloor with no nails or glue needed. Subfloors need only be clean, dry, and level.
